I've been inspired by art and admired people who paint since I was young. My formal education, however, was in music, and my other creative abilities followed the same pattern of long-term practice and study. Not so with painting. I first tried painting in 2012. I was amazed at the joy I found in creating art on canvas. I now realize that my other creative pursuits in life had prepared me to use a paint brush, mix colors, see perspectives, understand contrast, and put together a beautiful composition.
I believe it’s possible for any one of us to discover a new talent that can emerge from our life experience. It's truly exciting.
The beauty I see in nature is my favorite source of inspiration. From wildlife to landscapes, I am awed by the beauty and power of nature. I’m drawn to paint images that evoke a sense of story and drama: images that cause me to reflect on life, stimulate memories, or evoke gratitude and wonder. This imagery reminds me of where I've been and who I am.
Some of my compositions are of nature exclusively, and in others, I include the presence of man made structures that interact with nature. The best of these structures support us and enhance the way we interact with the natural world.
I want my art to cause the viewer to feel present with the images, and to experience a growing sense of wonder.
